Hurdle event group sets huge personal records and top Canadian rankings at 2016 AO BMJ Indoor Championship
March 06, 2016
In the hurdles, our youngest athletes put on quite the show. With many of our junior and midget athletes resting or at other multi-sport events, all of our athletes competing in the hurdles were underage or first year athletes. The only first year MG athlete in the 60m hurdle final, Olivia Gee set a huge personal record time of 9.45. Olivia also set a personal record of 8.24 in the MG 60m sprints.
Underage JW athlete, Kaylyn Hall, set a new personal record time of 8.96 winning the Silver Medal in the JW 60m hurdle event. Kaylyn is now the 7th ranked JW in Canada. Breaking 9 seconds is a major milestone in Jr women’s hurdle progression. Yesterday Kaylyn ran 8.96 twice in both her heat and her final.
Equally impressive was the work done by underage juniors Matthew MacGillivray and Liam Mather. Matthew set a personal record time of 8.82 in the JM 60m hurdles which moves him into 14th place in the Canadian JM 60m indoor hurdle rankings. This was only Matthew’s second JM 60m hurdle race.
Liam Mather, the youngest JM athlete in the competion, is only a first year youth athlete. Competing against athletes averaging 3 years older, Liam placed 4th, milliseconds away from earning a medal. Liam’s new personal record time of 8.42 ranks him #5 in Canada amoung Junior Men.
